J.Storm Fortnite Update

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — SEPTEMBER 27, 2018 — J.Storm is excited to make another announcement today, this time in Fortnite. We would like to welcome Dawson “Tylarzz” Sherwood as our second Fortnite player. Tylarzz joins his teammate, James “Painful” Garrod, to form J.Storm’s first Fortnite duo.

Before playing Fortnite competitively, both Tylarzz and Painful grew large audiences in the Minecraft community. They’re looking to take their successful experiences in Minecraft and make an impact in competitive Fortnite.

J.Storm’s General Manager, Chandler Dent, had this to say on the newest addition to the team:

“We’re excited to bring both Tylarzz and Painful on board and to expand into our second title. Tylarzz & Painful both bring a great mix of entertainment, competitiveness and professionalism that aligns with our values as an org.

“Dawson ended with the most kills at PAX West and we’re excited to see what he can do moving forward in the competitive scene. James is a proven competitor in multiple skirmishes and has continued to place highly, finishing in the top ten in week one of the Fall Skirmish. We can’t wait to work together.”

Tylarzz had this to say on joining J.Storm:

“I’m super excited to join and represent J.Storm moving forward. Expect big things to come!”

Painful had this to say on joining J.Storm:

“I’m so excited to be joining J.Storm, and I’m looking forward to representing J.Storm in professional Fortnite tournaments. No one is ready for what is about to come, I train harder than everyone and I’m ready to put on a show.”

The first major announcement is that our strategic partnership with Vici Gaming has ended, not only complying with Valve’s ownership rules for the Dota 2 season ahead, but also meaning that VGJ.Thunder will no longer be a Dota 2 team moving forward. Additionally, as part of our rebrand, the organization will continue under a new name and banner: J.Storm. We will be focused on North America with Dota 2, Fortnite, and other titles.

Continuing our announcement, we are excited to welcome David “Moo” Hull, Jonathan “Bryle” De Guia, Sangdon “FoREv” Lee, Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara and Taewon “March” Park to J.Storm’s Dota 2 team.

J.Storm’s General Manager, Chandler Dent, had this to say on the new team:

17/18 season Thank you!

In looking back on this past year we wanted to take a moment and thank the VGJ.Storm team that brought us on this incredible journey that culminated in a TI8 7/8th place finish. When we started this organization in September of 2017, attending TI felt like a hoop dream. To come 1st in the World Cyber Arena North America Finals, 1st in the GESC: Thailand Dota Minor, 2nd in the MDL Changsha Major, 1st in The International 2018 North America Qualifier, and 1st in The International 2018 Group B in our first year is something we are extremely grateful for. So we wanted to take a moment to remember, reflect, and thank all those involved in helping us achieve these incredible accomplishments.

The above is in no way a reflection of where we are going in the upcoming season. We are currently in the midst of the post-TI roster shuffle and fully intend to field a team for the upcoming season. We will comment on this as soon as we have news to share.

KBBQ - Jack Chen (Dota Team Director). Jack the Ancient. Is there anyone in the world who loves Dota more than Jack? This man lives and breathes Dota from morning to night. He has no worldly needs besides a floor to sleep on, something to fill his belly, and Dota. Bringing Jack in to manage the Dota team means he channeled all his love for the game to help the team be successful and win many Dota games. We were honored to have him on the journey this past year.

Clairvoyance - Aaron Kim (Dota Coach). Clair the Jack-of-all-trades. There is nobody who adapted more and sacrificed more throughout the course of the year to support every player we brought in. Aaron is a coach who cares deeply about the players and wants them to be successful.

Resolut1on - Roman Fominok (Position 1/2 player). Roman the student. Roman joined us late into the journey but was a vital part of our success. Coming in with an incredible resume, Roman also came with a remarkable hunger to learn and grow. He adapted well to the players around him and uplifted their gameplay while staying true to himself.

YS - Yawar Hassan (Position 1/2 player). Yawar the grinder. He is by far the quietest of the group but he made the sacrifice to talk and express himself more to see this team be successful. This was an explosive growth year for Yawar and it’s just the beginning!

Sneyking - Jingjun Wu (Position 3 player). Sneyking the passion. His incredible drive combined with his mechanical skill was a critical component to our success this year. Sney was with VGJ.Storm from day one with our original stack, as well as our TI stack, and we’re grateful to have spent the year with him.

MSS- - Arif Anwar (Position 4 player). Mojo the foundation. MSS has the ability to completely change the course of a game unlike the majority of Position 4 players. We had to publish dedicated highlight tapes because we couldn't narrow down all the amazing plays he had in a single tournament. He was the ever-present laughter and smile on the team.

SVG - Avery Silverman (Position 5 player, Captain). Avery the charismatic leader and captain. Avery truly emits all the features in a captain that you could ask for. Avery has superb analytical prowess while drawing out the best in each player. SVJesus may be no more without his long hair, but we wouldn't take Avery any other way.

Also thanks to everyone who was with us along the journey throughout the year! We wouldn’t be where we are today without their contributions.

Stan King - Stanley Yang

FLee - Francis Lee

Ryoya - Eric Dong

Ritsu - Ravindu Kodippili

Kitrak - Karthik Rathi

monkeys-forever - Jaron Clinton

BananaSlamJamma - Brian Canavan

Timado - Enzo Gianoli

Illidan - Ilya Pivcaev

VGJ.Storm Wins GESC Thailand!

Wins over The Final Tribe, Fnatic & Keen Gaming in the GESC Thailand playoffs earned VGJ.Storm our first LAN victory as a team. After taking some time to adjust to the new patch and battling through the group stages, VGJ.Storm only dropped a single game in the playoff stage. Yawar YS Hassan & Roman Resolut1on Fomynok each showed versatility as they were able to seamlessly switch positions from game to game to effectively carry from mid and safelane. JingJun Sneyking Wu continually pressured the offlane and created space for his team to grow into the game. Arif MSS- Anwar won the MVP vote from many behind his stellar Tusk play in the grand finals. Last and certainly not least, Avery SVG Silverman kept the team ticking with his support play and excellent drafting.

Team Director Jack KBBQ Chen had this to say on the team's first LAN victory:

"Really proud of our being able to step up when we most needed it, and our resilience in recovering from some rough days of practice and group stage matches. We still have a ton to learn and hone but the focus and discipline was awesome from this group as it consistently has been, so we have lots to look forward to."

Resolut1on had this to say about his first LAN with the team:

"It's pretty surprising for me that we did so well at our first tournament as a team, since we only had a month of practicing together. Obviously I'm very happy about the win but I'm even happier about the road to TI. We had a lot of fun and it was very enjoyable to stay in that atmosphere, I think it's important right now for a Dota team to get along with each other well since you are hanging out together for like 80% of the time. So first one in the bag and hopefully more to come!"

VGJ.Storm has no time to celebrate as we immediately head off to MDL Changsha to try to win our first Major. A big thank you to the fans at the arena and our fans watching online!

VGJ.Storm Roster Change

VGJ.Storm is making a roster change before our trips to Thailand and China. The bad timing of an uncertain and packed tournament schedule alongside Timado’s citizenship and visa process has played a large part in our difficult decision to replace him. Enzo Timado Gianoli played an instrumental role in qualifying for our next two tournaments for which he will be compensated appropriately. We’d like to thank him for his time and his hard work. We wish him the best and we will continue to support his growth as a player.

In his place, we’d like to welcome Roman Resolut1on Fominok to the team. Roman is a seasoned and accomplished professional and we look forward to going to battle with him.

Here’s a word from our Team Director, Jack KBBQ Chen:

This is obviously a really tough situation for a promising young player. Though we had discussed this possibility with Timado, he showed maturity beyond his years in continuing to compete to his fullest ability throughout recent qualifiers, even though he couldn’t be with the team at bootcamp. Thankfully, the difficulties of his situation will also be resolved in the next few months.
We’re of course excited that Roman will be joining the team. He’s a driven, relentless competitor who has proven himself at a highest levels time and again in different situations, and the upside is high.

Thank you for your support, and you can catch VGJ.Storm playing in ESL Birmingham qualifiers next week.

VGJ.Storm is Back

After a short break to reset, VGJ.Storm is back and ready to compete with a new roster. We're excited to welcome Enzo Timado Gianoli, Arif MSS Anwar & Avery SVG Silverman, as well as familiar faces Yawar YawaR Hassan & JingJun Sneyking Wu, to Brooklyn.

Team director Jack KBBQ Chen had this to say on the roster update:

"I'm excited to announce we're right back to competing, and I'd like to introduce our newest Dota 2 team, which includes some familiar faces!
Yawar has been a promising core player for a long time, hungrily grinding in search of the right circumstances to break out. He diligently stood in for us in November after Ritsu’s departure and carried himself (and the team) quite capably.
Timado I first encountered years ago when he was just a polite, extremely young IXDL player looking for advice and competition. He has unselfishness and maturity well beyond his years and we’re hyped to help him become the star he seems certain to become.
Sneyking has always been a ferociously driven competitor, and I’m happy to work with him once again as he continues to hone himself as a strong voice and leader.
MSS has been undisputedly a top tier player for some time, a monster who excels at multiple positions with a large hero pool. Can’t ask for much more experience, knowledge, and versatility in a playmaker than this.
And SVG brings unique wisdom and perspective as one of the few to have both coached and competed at the highest level.
Glad to be going to battle with these guys."

Full roster:

  1. YawaR

  2. Timado

  3. Sneyking

  4. MSS

  5. SVG

Come cheer on the new VGJ.Storm competing in DreamLeague NA Qualifiers today at 4pm ET!

VGJ.Storm Status Update

VGJ.Storm and the players are hitting the reset button on our current roster. We would like to thank Brian BSJ Canavan and Jaron monkeys-forever Clinton for their hard work and perseverance in a trying month. We would also like to thank Francis FLee Lee & Stanley Stan King Yang for being with us from the beginning. We've enjoyed seeing them grow as players and people.

Jack KBBQ Chen had this to say on the reset and the future for VGJ.Storm:

"First and foremost, I wanna thank the guys for battling all out through the month of January. Monkeys and BSJ stepped into a really chaotic situation, and brought great energy, drive, and communication to our team. Francis and Stan (and Eric as well) saw their roles change and needed to step up and take charge, and they did. Ultimately we were one game away from qualifying for Bucharest, and we put together some good series against elite teams we'd been struggling against. At the end of the day players had to go through a ton of overlapping qualifiers, and that's tremendously stressful and draining. Add that to uncertainty about our mid position, and the players eventually held a meeting where we all discussed going in a different direction.
I'm grateful to Stan and Francis for their time here. We watched them change, adapt, and grow as people and get valuable international experience (Stan's first victories on LAN!), and as a new organization we had plenty to learn from them as well. It's just the nature of competition, sometimes you put in the time and the work, and still don't reach everything you strived for. We know they'll continue to grind and find success going forward. Francis is a talented free spirit, and Stan is a natural organizer and teacher, and we'll miss both.
I'd also like to thank Brian and Jaron. They immediately improved our team's energy and communication, fitting in from day one, and are a huge reason why we went into early January qualifiers in great form. Though I found Jaron's dietary restrictions even less palatable than BSJ's stream tilts, I'll miss them both as well.
What myself and VGJ don't intend to miss for long is competing in professional Dota. It won't be long before we find people who share our commitment and values, and go to war again."

Thanks for supporting us, and keep an eye out for news regarding our Storm roster!

VGJ.Thunder is on a roll!

In case you missed it, VGJ.Thunder had quite an eventful December! We were crowned First in H-Cup Season 8 and later placed Third in H-Cup Season 9. We also qualified for Galaxy Battles II as well as ESL One Genting 2018, and will be representing China in both upcoming tournaments.

Mark your calendars! Galaxy Battles II begins on January 15th and ESL One Genting 2018 begins on January 23rd. Exact match schedules are yet to be announced.

Go Thunder!

Roster Announcement

It's a new year, and a new look VGJ.Storm going into 2018. We really want to thank Sneyking for his contribution to the organization these past few months. It was sad when he let us know of his decision to leave, but we appreciate all he's done for the team and wish him the best.

We are excited to announce two new additions to VGJ.Storm to round out our roster. Brian BSJ Canavan and Jaron monkeys-forever Clinton join our organization as our carry and offlaner, respectively.

Team director, Jack KBBQ Chen, had this to say on the roster changes:

"We're excited to welcome BSJ and monkeys-forever to VGJ. Both players have battled through NA Dota for years to compete at the highest level, and we can't wait to add our resources and structure to their drive in helping everyone reach their potential.
It's sad to be moving on from a player who was in many ways the heart and soul of our team, Sneyking. I'd heard many things about him when initially coming into this organization, but at the end of the day what stood out above all else to me is how maniacally competitive and relentless he was. He had vision and experience that few people can match, and continually refused to settle. Some of these are qualities that can't be taught or instilled. We wish him well and he deserves and will probably find success wherever he goes. We'd also like to thank Yawar for helping us so much as a standin from mid-November onward. He didn't have to do any of the things he did, but he showed up to play, shared and taught and even mediated at times, and put in great effort to help our team and improve himself. We believe that he's primed to break out.
2017 was a great year. We learned a lot about each other and what it takes to compete at this level, and we're on to make 2018 even better."

Here is how we will line up:

  1. Brian BSJ Canavan
  2. Eric Ryoya Dong
  3. Jaron monkeys-forever Clinton
  4. Francis FLee Lee
  5. Stanley Stan King Yang
